Also think of the environment of casinos… what’s normally going on in a casino late nights. Partying, drinking m, gambling, losses, ups/downs. I think truck stops are actually safer and they can be scary to but at least your surrounded by others doing the same wanting to get rest and are all probably watching out for each other.

I was parked in a rest area just North of Klamath Falls, Oregon. About 10:30 PM, a red van with tinted out windows parked about 30 feet away. I watched for awhile and nothing happened, so I got the impression they were stopping for the Night like I had. Just after Midnight, I heard both of their front doors open. Two Hispanic guys walked around and behind my pickup very quietly. When one looked at me though the driver's Side Window, he got a Face Full of my Laser Pointer. Both of them ran back to their rig, and bugged out. After their van was out of sight, I LEFT AS WELL! I had a feeling that they WOULD be back with reinforcements. I found a one lane dirt road, and drove 3 Miles up that into the Bush. I found a HUGE Rock and parked behind that for the night.

Good points! I’m in a no-build van full time, with a homemade separating toilet, portable solar panels, power station and water in jugs, and have spent 90% of the past year boondocking in CA. Water is my primary limiting factor for how long I stay, as my 90-lb pup drinks (and fouls or spills!) a lot. I generally start with up to 14 gal, and make sure I have at least 3-5 as reserve when I leave a site to get more. I was really nervous at first, but have come to love the quiet and independence.

I agree that people thoughtlessly take advantage of the kindness. I was thinking it could be rather easily implemented to pay for an overnight stay by creating an app for that. I have a Taco Bell app. I always use that to order and pay. I never order at the counter or go through the drive-through. I have a monthly subscription to planet fitness. I just walk in and scan my QR code. I can use any planet fitness in the United States. It seems that Buckys, or Walmart, or Cracker Barrel, could implement something very similar. You would need to pay an administration fee to register yourself and personal information and the registration of your vehicle. Then it could be implemented on a payment at time of use. If you stayed too many nights, the app could notify you that you need to leave. There could be overnight pricing for a car or van. There could be a higher overnight pricing for RVs. Unless they want you to register at a counter and get a sticker, Not sure how they would implement it other than verifying the license plate number. They have people checking the cars at night anyway.

What a cute couple. I want a travel trailer for me and my dogs to be able to go and not bother anyone. I hate leaving them home alone. Im going to try renting 1 1st to see how I like it.

I am considering this. Of course you would have to modify it for a van. I think I’m going to mount one on each side of my van. It’s a system that dispenses pepper spray to the nozzles outside from inside the van. I wouldn’t have used it in your case. I would have left as you did. But it would be there in the worst case scenario. IJust search for F3 Defense.
